2024 Metro Vancouver Wildfire Regional Workshop

Metro Vancouver is hosting its third annual virtual workshop on wildland and interface fire management. The event features presentations from professionals and experts in wildfire prevention and management with opportunities for questions and discussion.

The forum will:

  1. Showcase wildland firefighting from across the region and province by identifying strengths, challenges and lessons learned from past wildfire season response and planning
  2. Provide a seasonal wildfire outlook, highlighting forecasted weather/climate
  3. Share information about wildfire preparedness initiatives, programs and/or policy changes from Provincial, Regional and Municipal agencies
  4. Enhance awareness of the roles and capacities of various partner organizations and inspire interagency collaboration for wildfire response and planning

Previous years’ events have been attended by 150+ representatives from local fire departments, First Nations, emergency program coordinators, the BC Wildfire Service, and others. By request, this year’s event is also open to invited agencies from outside Metro Vancouver.

The 2024 forum has an operational focus and will feature presentations on insights from the 2023 wildfire season, including First Nations wildfire response and lessons learned from the 2023 wildfires in West Kelowna, as well as a 2024 Provincial wildfire forecast.
